- DOP oil is widely used in PVC production, particularly due to its low costs and favorable properties. Aside from that, many plastics we use, ranging from tablecloths to shower curtains, garden hoses to toys, may contain DOP oil in concentrations between 1% and 40%, serving the purpose of softening rigid plastics. Additionally, DOP oil can be employed as a fragrance carrier in various products such as room sprays and cosmetic items. In the medical field, DOP oil is used as a plasticizer in the production of items like blood bags and dialysis machines, and it finds application in food packaging as well.
- Until the early 2000s, DOP oil was also utilized in the textile industry as a dispersant until its use was banned.
Also known as Dioctyl Phthalate, or DOP oil, Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate is the most common member of the phthalates class used to impart flexibility to rigid plastics. It is a colorless liquid that is insoluble in water but soluble in oil. Due to its cost-effectiveness, it is highly suitable for use in plastic production.
